Meter cupboard 1930s house
In a characterful 1930s house I fully concealed the meter cupboard in the hallway with a made-to-measure enclosure. The meter cupboard sits in a narrow hallway next to the stairs, and a bare meter cupboard in plain view does not suit the style of a house like this.
I made panels to measure and finished them with classic mouldings that suit the style of a 1930s home. The enclosure follows the sloping line of the staircase. Handy small hatches keep the meter, the fuse box and the main water tap within reach, but neatly out of sight.
The result is a hallway where the meter cupboard no longer stands out but has become part of the interior. Open a hatch and you can still reach everything. I make a piece of custom work like this with the precision of a cabinetmaker.
