What is it?
Staircase renovation and stair cladding by RenovaStairs
A staircase renovation gives your existing stairs new treads, risers and nosings without removing the staircase. You choose from four materials: PVC slabs that I glue directly onto the treads, rigid PVC stair overlays with a mineral core, laminate stair overlays from MexForm, or real wood overlay treads. It works on open and closed staircases of wood, concrete or metal, in Amersfoort, Utrecht, Amsterdam, the Gooi region and the rest of my working area.
With a PVC staircase renovation I clad just the treads with nosing, or the treads, risers and nosing together. You choose from 20 colours, from a warm Boterkoek to a bold Bitterkoek with a stone texture, all with a tactile relief. I always use aluminium nosing profiles of 14 x 43 mm, in finishes including stainless steel, sand, silver, black, anthracite and bronze, with a ridge for grip and an inlay of the same PVC. You get a 15-year manufacturer's warranty for domestic use, wear class AC5 and a 0.55 mm top layer.
Rigid PVC stair overlays have a dimensionally stable SPC core with the nosing built in, use class 33 (AC5), are phthalate-free and also carry a 15-year manufacturer's warranty. MexForm laminate has a 0.6 mm CPL top layer, wear class AC4 and a 12-year manufacturer's warranty on the top layer, and treads, risers and stringers can all be the same colour. If you choose real wood, you get the warm, natural look of genuine wooden treads, finished in one of the 24 wood colours. If you already have overlay treads and just want a new colour, interior wrapping film is an option too. Would you rather have your stairs painted, an open staircase closed in, or the old covering stripped and primed first? I do that too.

If you want the warm, natural look of real wood on your stairs, choose real wood overlay treads. They fit over your existing treads with the nosing included, without removing the staircase, and you can have them finished in one of the 24 wood colours.

My approach
From free advice to a flawless staircase
It starts with a free, no-obligation consultation at your home. I bring the current samples so you can see the colours in your own light, and I check the condition of your staircase straight away. Then I measure up myself and you receive a clear, tailored quotation.
For PVC slabs the staircase must be completely free of glue and carpet. If there is still an old covering on it, I strip and prime the stairs first. Then I fit the treads, risers and nosings myself. If you choose the same finish for your floor, it flows seamlessly into your staircase.

It depends on the number of steps, the material, whether your staircase is open or closed and the condition of the surface. That is why I first visit you free of charge to look at the stairs and measure up myself. You then receive a clear, tailored quotation.
No. The new treads, risers and nosings go over your existing staircase, so no demolition is needed. This works on open and closed staircases of wood, concrete or metal.
PVC slabs are thin, flexible strips that I glue directly onto the tread, with a separate aluminium nosing profile. A rigid PVC stair overlay has a hard, dimensionally stable core with the nosing already built in. Both carry a 15-year manufacturer's warranty for domestic use.
Because PVC slabs are glued directly onto the tread. Every bump or bit of old glue underneath would show in the finished result. That is why I strip and prime the stairs first where needed.
Yes. The top of the profile has a tactile ridge that works as an anti-slip strip. An inlay of the same PVC as your treads goes into the profile, so tread and nosing form one whole.
No. MexForm laminate stair overlays have a 0.6 mm CPL top layer with an anti-slip texture. Laminate gives a warm wood look at an affordable price and is easy to maintain: vacuuming and wiping with a damp cloth is enough.
